Empowering Nonprofits: Access to Low-Cost Tech Solutions

Money is tight for nonprofit organizations working to do good things in the community. Software, IT services, and website design put a strain on a nonprofit’s meager budget. Oftentimes, nonprofits want to streamline operations by using the latest technology, but they can’t afford it. They know they can run their organization more efficiently with full access to technology, and they’re looking for a “Fairy Godmother” to grant their wish.

Free or Discounted Tech Solutions for Nonprofits

Thankfully, the “Fairy Godmother” has arrived! Packerland Websites now partners with an organization that provides free or deeply discounted technology products, knowledge, and services. This organization serves as a nonprofit tech marketplace. It partners with leading tech brands including Microsoft, Avast, Adobe, Intuit, Cisco Meraki, HP, DocuSign, Hootsuite, and Zoom. Thus, nonprofits receive the technology services they need at a price they can afford.

Technology Solutions: Maximizing Impact on a Budget

Products include hardware, software, cloud-based resources, managed IT services, unlimited Help Desk, access to tech consultants with verified nonprofit expertise, and skills training online courses. Plus, participants can connect with other nonprofit leaders through online community forums. How is this possible? The organization built a tech product philanthropy service in which partners donate products or offer lower fees on their products. About 75 philanthropy partners provide a full range of technology products and services. The organization is committed to helping nonprofits achieve their goals, despite limited budgets.

Lights, Camera, Action! Zoom Etiquette Dos and Don’ts

team Packerland Websites on zoom call

Packerland Websites had a little fun this week, poking fun at ourselves and missteps in video conferencing. Since our team interacts remotely with each other and with clients, we wanted to dig into Zoom etiquette. We spend a good deal of time on camera, so we need to be aware of how we present ourselves and represent our brand. We all have experienced embarrassing moments on Zoom. It’s human nature. However, a Zoom video conference shouldn’t become an episode of “Candid Camera.” Before attending a video conference, go through this quick Zoom etiquette checklist.

Sit in the Right Spot

Zoom ettiquette

The first thing to nail down is the appropriate distance from the camera. Look at the camera, and adjust your position until you show your face and shoulders. If you’re too close to the camera, your huge head overwhelms your audience. Too far from the camera and you appear distant and uninterested in what’s happening. Additionally, check the lighting in the room and the camera’s focus on your face. Make sure both of these are adjusted to make you look your best.

Know Where to Look

Here’s a second tip about your camera – LOOK INTO THE CAMERA! It’s so easy to turn your head to see something off-screen, like a dual computer monitor. Swiveling away from the camera appears rude. Remember, looking directly at the camera and focusing on the people in the Zoom conference shows your respect and interest.

Avoid Distracting Backgrounds

Third, pay attention to your background. Today, at-home workspaces are common, so maybe you work at your kitchen table. That doesn’t mean your audience should see dirty dishes or your kids opening the frig for a snack. Immediately, the audience may form an opinion of you and your company that might not be flattering. At Packerland Websites, we created a professional banner for a backdrop. It features our company logo, colors, and graphics. This backdrop looks sharp and reinforces our brand. (Contact Us ask about a brand-specific background for your company.)

Know When to Mute

Fourth, know when to mute your microphone. After all, what do dogs, clocks, and ice cream trucks all have in common? Each can be a noisy disruption that interrupts a business meeting. Off-camera conversations are another typical distraction. If you talk to someone outside the meeting or sit in a noisy environment, be considerate. Move to a quieter location, and mute your microphone until it’s your turn to speak.

Put Your Attention Where It Belongs

Although it’s easy to zone out when you’re in yet another video conference, fight the urge to disengage. It’s tempting to check Facebook or emails, work on projects, or daydream during a conference. These activities indicate that you don’t value the presenter’s time or the information they’re contributing. Instead of looking bored or multi-tasking during a meeting, focus on what’s happening and adding your input. If meetings drag on too long, talk with a supervisor about limiting meetings to 30 minutes.

Achieve Your Meeting Goals

Just like in-person meetings, Zoom meetings present opportunities to share ideas, develop strategies, and work in partnerships. By following these four tips for Zoom etiquette, you achieve your meeting’s goals while presenting a professional image and brand.

Re-Zoom Your Brand

As the COVID-19 pandemic shifts work online, Zoom and other video conferencing platforms are becoming the new office. Social Distancing and Safer at Home policies are changing our work practices. Video conferences and online chats have become the go-to communication choice.

Communicating at a distance

Packerland Websites recently adopted Zoom as its communications platform to connect with co-workers and clients. Zoom is one of the few companies on the stock market that is increasing in value. Shares nearly doubled since the beginning of the year. That gives you an idea of how popular it’s become.

A great way to use Zoom is to build it into your website versus an email invite. As a result, Zoom becomes more than just a way to communicate. Additionally, you’re branding your business. Today, customers are less likely to visit you in person and more likely to participate in an online conference. What is the best way to retain brand identity and client experience at a virtual meeting?

Reinforce your brand

Here’s what we did at Packerland Websites. In the footer of our website, we created buttons for Zoom Conference Rooms 1, 2, and 3. The conference rooms are interior pages of our website with simple instructions explaining how to connect with us. Clients meet with us virtually via the Zoom app or their browser.

We reinforce our brand by bringing customers to our website for a virtual visit. Clients are ushered into a conference room, similar to how they would enter a conference room at our office. Clients feel like they’re visiting our company and, in the process, become more familiar with our brand. Integrating Zoom into our website allows us to connect with clients and co-workers. Additionally, we’re reinforcing Packerland Websites’ brand presence by drawing clients into our world – through our website.
