How to Create a QR Code and Add It to a Website

QR codes are ideal for printed materials where it is not possible for the user to click on a link. If you want to add a link to a website, it is more effective to use a button or text link so the user can simply click on the link instead of scanning it with their smartphone. These instructions explain how to create a QR code image and add the image to your website using WordPress’s Gutenberg blocks. This tutorial also shows how to link the QR code image to a URL.

Create the QR code

There are many services to create QR codes, both free and paid. Paid options may allow you to update the link connected to a QR code or track how many times the code has been scanned. Below are two free options that you can use through your web browser.

If you are using Google Chrome, you can right-click anywhere on a webpage and then click “Create QR code for this page” in the menu that appears. This will create a QR code image. Click “Download” to download the image to your computer.

Go to QR Code Generator and enter the link for your QR code. Click the download button to save the QR code image to your computer.

How to Add the QR Code to Your Website

To add the QR Code to your website, first login to your WordPress dashboard and open the page or post where you want to add the QR code. Nex, click the “+” button in the upper left corner and search for the Image block. Click on the image block to add it to the page.

Click “Upload” to upload the QR code image from your computer.

You can find more detailed instructions for adding and formatting images in our online tutorial.

Add a Link to the QR Code Image

While you have the image selected, click the link icon in the image block toolbar. Copy and paste the same link you used for the QR code into the text field. Next, press “enter” on your keyboard or click the apply arrow icon.

Save your page or post

Make sure to click the Save or Update button in the top right corner of your post or page to save your changes.
